The Discover Center said everyone would need to be masked to enter and an extensive cleaning including sanitizing the room including moping the floors. After much discussion the members decided that the clean-up would make the meeting more difficult, and decided not to have the July Coin Club meeting. Jim will be checking with the Discovery Center to ask if we could pay the Discovery Center's cleaning crew to clean-up or if we could hire our own clean-up service.
The next Ozarks' Coin Club Board Meeting has been moved to July 7, 2020 and will continue to be on Zoom. The Ozarks' Coin Club Board of Directors met on June 11, 2020 through Zoom for their monthly Board meeting. During the meeting plans were discussed about how to safely conduct an Ozarks' Coin Club meeting. After much discussion this issue was tabled until the City of Springfield announced their Phase 3 of reopening, and contacting the Discovery Center. The decision was made to contact the Discovery Center and gather more information about the cities plans and meet again on June 18th to make the determination of holding a July Coin Club meeting in person. The July board meeting location will also be determined at this time based on our ability to use the Discovery Center facility. The Board decided to cancel the July Golden Eagles meeting at Golden Coral until at least August.
There was much discussion about the October Coins show, and the decision was made to go ahead with the scheduled plans to host the show in October. Currently, 24 dealers have committed to attending. As we get closer to the time of the show and know the rules for occupancy to allow for social distancing from the City of Springfield, we will be able to determine how many people will be able to be in the show at one time. More information will be available about the July Coin Club meeting after the June 18th Board meeting. Stay tuned for more details. The Ozarks' Coin Club has been actively monitoring the local reopening rules set forth from the Springfield-Greene County Health Department. Since the rules still are limiting the size of group gatherings, the Board voted on May 14, 2020 to suspend the June meetings for both regular club meeting as well as the Golden Eagles meeting. This decision was not taken lightly, but due to the current use by the Discovery Center as a day care for Healthcare and First Responder workers we did not feel that we could adequately sanitize the area for our use or theirs.
The Board also discussed the yearly trip to St. Charles. It was decided after a lengthy discussion that this trip should be canceled as well to help protect the health of the members. Youth members, Mr. Guy has been working hard to find a way for you to get your assignments. Please be looking for the assignments in the Flying Eagle, and on the Youth Page on this site. Once the assignment is completed you may email him your completed work, his contact information is on the side of this page. The Board plans to meet again through a Zoom meeting on June 11 to discuss next steps forward, and determine if we can meet in person for a July meeting. Youth member of the Ozarks' Coin Club Stephanie, author of the YN section Stephanie's Pretty Penny, gave a presentation at the beginning of the March meeting about her penny collection. She spoke about how she got started with her collection, what steps she took to grow her collection from looking through a large random jar of pennies, narrowing her search to a few targeted pennies, and taking the search to coin shops and various coin shows around the state. Stephanie has nearly completed her collection of pennies, and is only looking for a few of the harder to find pennies that are more expensive. While she remains on the lookout for those pennies, she has now turned her collecting sights on Olympic Coins. |
